Desert Heights Charter School Review

Desert Heights Charter School opened in 2000 to provide students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade with an alternative to public education in a safe, nurturing learning environment.

The school centers their curriculum on high performing, honors track, and accelerated credit learning. Along with core subjects, Desert Heights Charter School offers extra curricular activities including chorus, band, choir, instrumental music lessons, dance, drama, and painting. Sports available include basketball, cheerleading, baseball, cross country, football, soccer, softball, track, and volleyball. Student clubs include newspaper and yearbook.

Desert Heights Charter School has mixed reviews. A few parents are happy with some of the teachers expressing they are caring and involved with their students. On the other hand, the majority of parents state the school is not challenging and their children are falling behind in courses. Many are electing to remove their children and place them in a different charter school. Some parents have explained that staff changes have caused many of the issues with the school but that their children are excelling now and the school is getting back on track with qualified and caring teachers.

Students at Desert Heights Charter School participated in the AIMS exam which measures if students have mastered core subjects. The percentages of students in this school that passed or exceeded the exam along with the average of students across the state are listed below.
