Darnall E-Charter School opened in 1993 to provide families that are in search of an alternative to traditional schools for students in kindergarten through 6th grades. The school focuses on the growth of the whole child, which includes academically, emotionally, and physically. The school offers a standards based curriculum with high expectations. Teachers use various teaching methods to ensure that each student has the opportunity to learn and to grow.
Along with core subjects, Darnall E-Charter School also offers choir, weekly music classes, weekly computer lab classes, and physical education classes.
Most parents are happy with the school and the curriculum; however, a few parents noted that there is favoritism as many parents also work at the school. Students and parents alike are disappointed that the school does not offer student clubs or sports. Some parents would like to see an enrichment program as well.
The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 787 to 790.
The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Darnall E-Charter School was above average and below average. The main course that was below average in every grade level was English Language Arts.
The school is doing a fair job but with the complaints of the parents and the scores in English Language Arts it would be a good idea to learn more about the curriculum and talk with parents that are not employed at the school to get a better idea.
