Da Vinci Science High School Review

The Da Vinci Science High School opened in 2009 to offer students in 9th through 11th grades with a college prep curriculum that is challenging and prepares students for careers in science, engineering, technology, and math. The class size is small with around 500 students enrolled per year. Students also have the opportunity to take college courses while working toward obtaining their high school diploma. Seminar classes provide students with the opportunity for advanced knowledge in rocketry, aerospace engineering, robotics, tech team, flight school, and engineering industry competitions to name a few.

Along with core subjects, the school offers drama, computer arts, band, fencing, martial arts, softball, volleyball, yoga, soccer, lacrosse, yearbook, community service, science & technology, student government, and newspaper.

Students expressed that the teachers are highly dedicated and work with them to ensure they excel. The only problem some students mentioned is the lack of college partnerships that will provide students with more challenging coursework. Parents are very pleased with the school on most levels and state that the school is providing the resources needed for their children to be prepared for college.

The Academic Performance Index is 770.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.
The percentage of students passing the exams at Da Vinci Science High School was above and below average. Examples include the percentage of 10th graders that passed the Algebra II exam was 18% with the state average at 42% and 11th grade Life Sciences at 88% with the state at 53%.

The California High School Exit Exam had the percentage of 10th graders passing the English Language Arts exam at 95% with the state average at 83% and in math 96% passed with the state average at 84%.

Da Vinci Science High School is providing an exceptional education for students that desire a career in the main focus subjects as well as preparing them for college.
