Creative Arts Charter School

Creative Arts Charter School opened in 1994 to provide students in the area with an alternative to traditional school. The school serves students in kindergarten through 8th grades with a project-based curriculum with a focus on the arts as well as hands on learning environments. The school works with students on an individual basis to ensure the success of each student.

Along with core subjects, the school offers extra curricular activities, which include band, rock band, instrumental music lessons, dance, drama, creative writing, design, drawing, ceramics, painting, printmaking, textile design, and sculpture. Sports offered include volleyball, track, soccer, basketball, cheerleading, and cross-country. Student clubs include rock band, yearbook, robotics club, game club, and chess club.

Parents are impressed with the way the school runs so smoothly. Teachers, staff, and administration care about the students and help provide all the necessary tools for students to achieve even when budgets are tight. Most parents expressed that their children are learning and are very interested in attending school. Students stated the courses are a tough but that teachers are very helpful.

The Academic Performance Index showed the school had academic growth from 777 to 819. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams at Creative Arts Charter School was up and down with some being above average and some below average. Examples include 67% of 5th graders passed the science exam with the state average at 60% while 48% of 2nd graders passed English Language Arts exam with the state average at 58%.

Overall, the school is doing a good job providing students with the educational tools needed to succeed and be prepared for the remainder of their educational years. It would still be a good idea to tour the school to ensure it is a good fit for your family.
