Community Outreach Academy Review

Community Outreach Academy is a part of Gateway Community Charters that provides an alternative to traditional schools offering a safe, nurturing, and caring learning environment. This campus opened in 2003 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school serves students in under served populations to ensure they have the opportunity to achieve a quality education.

Along with core subjects, Community Outreach Academy offers students other programs they can join such as extra curricular activities like computer arts, drama, dance, painting, and chorus. Sports available are basketball, martial arts, football, physical education classes, soccer, and track. Student clubs include multimedia, newspaper, yearbook, science and technology, and student council.

Parents like the warm and inviting atmosphere found at the school that provides a great education. The staff, teachers, and administration are very attentive to the needs of parents and staff. Students expressed they like the school and all their friends. The playground is also fun for many students.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 808 to 845. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams were both above and below average, but the majority was above the previous year by 20%.

The school is improving and has done a great job over the last year. Students and parents like the school and children are learning in a safe and nurturing environment. To learn if the school offers an environment that will help your child succeed, you should take a tour.
