College-Ready Academy High School # 7 Review


College-Ready Academy High School # 7 is part of the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools being the largest nonprofit charter organization in Los Angeles. This campus opened in 2007 and serves students in 9th through 12th grades. The school offers a college preparatory standards based curriculum. The network of Alliance College-Ready Public Schools includes both high schools and middle schools serving mainly low-income students.

College Ready Academy High School # 7 provides small classes and personalized learning environments, which are determined by the teacher, student, and parents. The Alliance College-Ready Public Schools student body is comprised of 87% are Latino and 13% are African American with 22% being English-Language Learners.

At this time, the school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

Parents are very pleased they have the option to sending their students to a school that offers individualized learning plans. They expressed their children are doing much better and enjoying going to school. Many parents were afraid their children would not finish high school, but are now pleased that they are excited to see just how much they are learning. Students stated the curriculum is tough but that teachers are very helpful and encouraging making school fun instead of boring.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 628 to 686. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was below average in all grades and all courses.

The Alliance College-Ready Public Schools overall since their beginning in 2004 have seen 96% of their seniors graduate with 99% of entering college.

College Ready Academy High School # 7 is providing a much-needed alternative to low income families to ensure their children receive a quality education and have the tools needed to enter college.
