College-Ready Academy High School #4 Review


College-Ready Academy High School #4 also known as Alliance Dr. Olga Mohan High School is part of the Alliance College-Ready Public Schools, which is the largest nonprofit charter organization in Los Angeles. This campus opened in 2006 and serves students in 9th through 12th grades. The school provides a standards based college prep curriculum. The network of schools includes both high schools and middle schools serving mainly low-income students.

College-Ready Academy High School #4 offers personalized learning environments to ensure they meet the needs of each student personally. The Alliance College-Ready Public Schools student body is comprised of 87% are Latino and 13% are African American with 22% being English-Language Learners.

Along with core subjects, College-Ready Academy High School #4 offers dance, drama, painting, sculpture, and photography. Sports offered include soccer, volleyball, softball, physical education classes, martial arts, baseball, cheerleading, and basketball. Other programs students can join include debate, yearbook, science & technology, student council, and academic contests. The vocational program available is agriculture.

Parents are thrilled with the college-oriented school that is encouraging their children to become the best they can be. Parent involvement is high, thus creating a more family environment. Teachers are very encouraging as well so students enjoy going to school. Students expressed they love the school and all the great activities the school has along with a curriculum that is not boring.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 894 to 883. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was above state averages in all grades and all courses.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the exams at College Ready Academy High School #4 was 92% in English Language Arts and 97% in math. Both were above state averages.

The Alliance College-Ready Public Schools overall since their beginning in 2004 have seen 96% of their seniors graduate with 99% of entering college.

College-Ready Academy High School #4 is providing an excellent education for students to be prepared for college and to become productive members of society.
