Circle of Independent Learning Charter School (COIL) Review

Circle of Independent Learning Charter School (COIL) opened in 1998 for students in kindergarten through 12th grades. The faculty of the school works closely with parents to ensure the curriculum as well as the learning approach is one that each student will be able to reach their full potential. The school strives to discover the learning style of each student to ensure they can reach their goals. The curriculum is more than just personalized but is also challenging helping students to reach their potential.

At this time, Circle of Independent Learning Charter School does not offer extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

Parents are very pleased with the diverse culture found at Circle of Independent Learning Charter School. The teachers are amazing and the environment is challenging and exciting. Students expressed they enjoy going to school and that teachers are very helpful and encouraging.

The Academic Performance Index showed academic growth from 773 to 789. The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students that passed the exams was below average in the lower grades 2nd, 3rd, and 4th; however, 5th grade was above average except in math, which was 20% below state average. Sixth, seventh, and eighth graders were above state average except for eighth grade Algebra I which was below average by 10%. Ninth and tenth graders were below average.

The California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students that passed the exams was 93% in English Language Arts and 70% in math. This shows that the graduation rate should be very good for the school.

Circle of Independent Learning Charter School is providing students with the tools they need to achieve their goals and become life long learners as well as productive members of their community.
