Challenge Charter School Review

Challenge Charter School opened in 1996 in Glendale, Arizona to serve students in kindergarten through sixth grades. The average enrollment is 630 students per year. The school is an Official Core Knowledge School which provides hand on focused academic classes centered on self motivation and self confidence.

The school offers specialized programs that cater to special need students including those with speech or language impairments, learning disabilities, and other health related impairments. The school has longer days than most public schools. The school not only provides core subject but several extracurricular activities which include chorus, dance, computer arts, photography, painting, and sculpture. Special programs include community service, radio/multimedia/video, newspaper, academic contests, and science & technology. Sports offered at the school include baseball, basketball, cheerleading, gymnastics, softball, soccer, physical educational classes, swimming, and volleyball.

The school utilizes a character development curriculum in a learning environment that offers an environmentally clean facility which is toxin and odor free.

Most parents are very happy with the teachers, curriculum, and the safe and nurturing environment found at Challenge Charter School. There are a few mixed reviews all within the last couple of years, stating that administration and staff has changed which has caused a few negative reports. The curriculum and teachers all receive positive reviews, however, the administration and the loss of a few programs has caused some parents to be unhappy with the school. Prices of uniforms have increased which is another reason that some are not as pleased as a few years ago.

Most parents agree their children are doing very well and enjoying the challenging curriculum and the school in general. Most complaints are with office staff.

Students at Challenge Charter School participated in the AIMS testing series that measures the mastering of core subjects of students that attend public schools and public charter schools. The percentages of students from this school along with state averages of students that passed or exceeded the exam are listed below
