Center for Academic Success – Sierra Vista K-12 Review

Center for Academic Success opened their Sierra Vista campus in 1996 for students in kindergarten through 12 grades. The school serves a diverse rural community focusing on students that are at risk of not finishing school. The school on average has an enrollment of 400 students with a curriculum with the main focus on basic skills as well as productive citizens.

Along with core subjects the school offers extra curricular activities and student clubs which include extra curricular video production, computer arts, chorus, painting, theater, student council, radio, video, multimedia, newspaper, and science & technology. The school does not offer any sports or physical educational classes.

The school has quite a few mixed reviews. Some parents are very pleased with the teachers and staff stating they are caring, nurturing, and their children are excelling. On the other hand, there are parents that have complained about the staff and administration. Most reviews show a learning environment is caring with teachers that are available to help students when needed. Students explained their respect for all teachers but did mention a few issues with other students that caused issues such as bullying.

The lower grades seem to have more positive reviews with the negative reviews being in the higher level grades from middle school to high school students. The issues seem to be targeting administration and the way they handle issues between students more than the school curriculum or classrooms.

Overall, the reviews are very positive with most parents and students happy with the classroom size, curriculum, and the responsive teachers and staff that work to help each child succeed.

Students at Center for Academic Sierra Vista Campus participated in the AIMS exam which is required by the state of Arizona for students in specific grades that attend public schools including public charter schools.
