Camino Nuevo Charter Academy – Burlington Campus Review

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy opened the Burlington Campus in 2000 to serve students in kindergarten through 8th grades with an alternative to traditional schools. The school provides a safe learning environment where students not only learn academics but also become critical thinkers and problem solvers along with being sensitive to the world around them.

The school offers a variety of programs that ensures students success as well as families. A few of the programs include the Developmental Bilingual Program, After School Program, Camino Nuevo Family Clinic, Latino Family Literacy Project, Mental Health Program, Arts Program, Music Program, Computers For Youth, SPARK, Playworks, Let’s Get Healthy Program, and Safe School’s Valet Program.

Along with core subjects and the above programs, the school also provides other activities, which include drama, dance, drawing, physical education classes, basketball, newspaper, and community service.

Students expressed that teachers are very helpful and ensure that if you need help they are there to give you the guidance you need. Parents like the curriculum, the save environment, and all the programs such as the clinic and other programs that helps the entire community. Some students stated that they like the idea that they can join several activities and that the curriculum is anything but boring. The curriculum is tough but enjoyable at the same time.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline in academic growth from 838 to 824. The percentage of students passing the California Standards Tests showed some below state average and above state average percentages. The lower grades were mainly below average in English Language Arts. Seventh graders were above average in both English and Math, while the percentage of students passing the Algebra I course was at 93%. There is no information on the number of students that graduated.

The Burlington campus is doing a wonderful job providing students with the educational tools, support, and encouragement they need to succeed.
