Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education (CAPE) Review

Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education (CAPE) opened as a charter school in 2007 for students in kindergarten through 8th grades. The school offers an open concept that allows students to learn in a safe and nurturing environment at their own pace. The school encourages parent involvement and offers more project based learning than traditional schools.

Along with core subjects, the school provides extra curricular activities, which includes sculpture, painting, drama, dance, photography, chorus, computer arts, orchestra, and band. Sports offered include football, basketball, soccer, golf, yoga, track, physical education classes, and gymnastics. Other programs include yearbook, community service, newspaper, academic contests, science & technology, and student government.

Parents are very happy with Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education expressing that teachers are caring, devoted, and communicate with parents and students easily. A few parents expressed their gratitude for such programs as GATE and honors, which is actually built into the curriculum for all students. Students stated that they enjoy attending school and are learning more than at other schools.

The Academic Performance Index showed a small increase in academic growth from 911 to 912. The percentage of students that passed the California Standards Tests was above the state average except for 7th grade math, which was below average but only by 6%. There were no reports on the number of students that graduated from the school; however, with the majority of students passing the exams it is more than likely the number is high.

Overall Camarillo Academy of Progressive Education is providing a quality education for students. Of course, to make sure the school is a good fit for your child, you should take a tour and talk with other parents. Parent involvement is very high in this school, so be prepared to be an involved parent.
