Burke Basic School Review

The Burke Basic School opened their charter school in 1995 for students in kindergarten through sixth grades. The average enrollment is 650 students per year. The curriculum focuses on core subjects, however, does offer other activities so students can receive a well-rounded education.

Along with the core subjects, students can participate in extra curricular activities including band, computer arts, orchestra, dance, chorus, painting, theater, student council, academic contests, yearbook, and science & technology. Sports offered at the school include gymnastics, physical education classes, and wrestling. The student body ethnicity is 53% Hispanic, 32% white, 10% black, 3% American Indian, and 2% not specified.

Parents love the school, the curriculum, and the teachers that are helping their children succeed. Most parents have noticed a change in the way their children enjoy school, grades, and even social activity since going to Burke Basic School. Teachers are nurturing and want each child to achieve their goals, so they spend time with each student to ensure their success. All classes are challenging and work toward preparing students for higher grades along with gifted classes for those that excel.
