Blue Oak Charter Montessori School opened in 2004 and serves students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The school uses the Montessori method and has strict guidelines. The school offers a unique learning environment that is safe and encourages parent involvement.
Along with core subjects, the Blue Oak Charter Montessori School provides extra curricular activities such as chorus, drawing, and cross-country.
Parents are very pleased with the school and express just how well their children are doing in the school. The teachers are very supportive and listen to the needs of each student. Students expressed how much they like their teachers and the school. The Montessori Method as stated by most parents is one that truly helps students succeed. The major complaint is that the school does not offer physical education classes. Students said they would like to see more sports and other activities.
The Academic Performance Index declined from the base points of 826 to 771. The percentage of students that passed the California Standards Tests was mixed with second graders being below average in English Language Arts and above average in math. Third graders were close to average in both courses. The other grade level percentages were not available at the time of this writing.
With the mixed tests scores and the decline in academic growth, it would be a good idea to learn more about the curriculum before enrolling your child. On the other hand, most parents and students are very pleased with the school. It might be a good idea to take a tour and see for yourself what you think of the environment. You can also talk with administration to learn how the students in other grades did with the California Standards Tests.
