Bitney College Preparatory High School opened in 1999 and is a charter high school offering a college prep curriculum that challenges students to do their best. The school serves students that are motivated to a succeed in school, wish to contribute to their school and their community, are responsible and accountable, take initiative in working toward their goals, and want an education that is more than what is offered in traditional schools.
Bitney College Preparatory High School has small class sizes with a limited enrollment to ensure the class size stays small. Teachers are caring and work with students to ensure their success.
The core subjects include English, Social Science, Math, Science, Physical Education, Foreign Language, technology, performing arts, and wilderness week. The school offers a large array of electives which include creative writing, graphic novel, fiction, publications, German, art 1, art 2, dance, ceramics, drama, digital photography, painting, music performance, fencing, health, mountain biking, weight training, yoga, modern physics, watershed science, computer graphics, carpentry, documentary film, odyssey of the mind, landscaping & gardening, and street law. Student clubs available include debate, student council, and yearbook. Vocation programs available include technology, health careers, law enforcement, and construction.
Students expressed how much they like the teachers and how the teachers treat every student with respect and really listen. Parents are very pleased with the progress they are seeing in their students. The school is safe and offers all kinds of academic studies as well as extra curricular activities. The small knit community is what most parents and students stated was the best.
The Academic Performance Index showed growth from the base points of 792 to 810. The California Standards Tests showed that all grade levels across all courses were above state averages in some cases 20% higher. Tenth graders are required to take the California High School Exit Exam to determine if students are skilled in English language arts and math. The percentage of students at Bitney College Prep that passed the English language arts exam was 79% with the state average at 83% and in math 95% with the state average at 84%. Even though the number of students graduating is not listed, with these percentages you can see that that many of the students will graduate and be knowledgeable.
Since there were no negative comments from parents or students, the school is providing a great learning environment where students are excelling. If you have any concerns, talk with parents and staff to make sure you want your child to attend the school.
