Benchmark Elementary School Review

Benchmark Elementary School opened the charter school in 1999 for students in grades kindergarten through 6th. The school on average has 420 students enrolled per year. This provides a small classroom setting which enables teachers to give more attention to students in a personal way. The staff and teachers are very attentive and most offer tutoring to students after school that need that extra bit of help with some subjects. The small community feel in a large city is one of the main attractions to the school offering a quality education that exceeds what can be found in public schools.

Along with core subjects, Benchmark Elementary School offers extra curricular activities, which works to aid in better social skills as well as providing students with more choices in their education. The extracurricular activities include band, computer arts, orchestra, video production, chorus, dance, sculpture, painting, and theater. Sports offered include football, soccer, rock climbing, basketball, cheerleading, martial arts, softball, yoga, volleyball, tennis, physical education classes, gymnastics, fencing, and baseball. The school also offers special programs, which include academic contests, community service, debate, newspaper, radio, video, multimedia, science & technology, student council, and yearbook.

Parents are pleased with the educational opportunities the school offers as well as the caring staff and teachers that want each student to succeed. Parents noted that their children were challenged and given the instruction needed to excel in all subjects. Students are very excited about going to school every day where the regular classroom is not the only option when it comes to learning. Several fieldtrips are also scheduled throughout the school year to give students a better understanding of various subjects.

In the state of Arizona, the AIMS exam is given to measure the mastering skills of students to ensure all students in public schools including public schools are meeting or exceeding standards set forth by the state.
