Bayshore Preparatory Charter School Review

Bayshore Preparatory Charter School offers an alternative to traditional schools with the curriculum model being a blend of advanced placement courses, standards based, independent study, core knowledge, and college prep. The school opened in 2005 and serves students in kindergarten through 12th grades.

The school also offers a home based program for home schoolers. The school does offers specialized programs to aid students which include autism, emotional behavioral disabilities, cognitive disabilities, hearing impairments, and other health issues.

Along with core subjects, Bayshore Preparatory Charter School provides extra curricular activities such as sculpture, painting, hoop dancing, running club, community service club, board games club, surf club, yearbook, science & technology, and drama. The school does not offer any sports.

Parents are very happy with the school including teachers and staff. Parents explained that the teachers and staff are caring and help to make the school more like family than an institution. Students are learning and enjoying going to school. The curriculum is very challenging and the school works with students on an individual basis to help them succeed and go on to college.

The Academic Performance Index showed the school had growth. The results of the California Standards Tests were not published at the time of this writing for all grade levels and courses; however, the ones that were published showed the percentage of students that passed the exams were state average.

It would be a good idea to learn more about the curriculum, talk with administration regarding the results of the test scores, and learn more about the number of students that are graduating before enrolling your child. Of course, the small class size and close-knit community is a huge plus and the school did show academic growth, which is an added bonus. The most important thing to remember is that the school you choose for your child is one that fits the needs of your child.
