Bay Area Technology School (Bay Tech) opened as a charter school in 2004 for students in 6th through 12th grades. The school offers a challenging curriculum that focuses on math and science along with in-depth learning in social sciences and the humanities.

Bay Area Technology School (Bay Tech) offers specialized programs for students, which include speech impairments, language impairments, hearing impairments, visual impairments, learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disabilities, orthopedic impairments, health impairments and multiple disabilities.

Along with core subjects, the school offers drawing, film production, computer arts, photography, and dance. Sports offered include physical education classes, rock climbing, soccer, and basketball. Other programs include student council, science & technology, debate, multimedia, community service, academic contests, yearbook and newspaper. The vocational program available is technology.

Parents are very pleased if not thrilled with the school. The teachers are very caring and communicate with the parents on a regular basis. One important resource that most parents expressed they are happy to see is that assignments and grades are posted online for parents to view so they can keep up with their child’s progress. The students stated the multicultural environment is wonderful and helps introduce them to various cultures, which is fun and educational.

The school had academic growth from the previous year as noted by the Academic Performance Index. The percentage of students passing the California Standards Tests were mainly average or above average across the different grades and courses. Only a few were below state averages.

The school is unique and is doing a good job of providing students with the tools needed to succeed. With any decision you are making with your child’s education it is always a good idea to talk with other parents and to take a tour of the school before enrolling your child.
