BASIS Oro Valley Review

Basis opened their charter school in Oro Valley in 2010 to provide an alternative to regular public schools. The school offers a quality education to students in 5th through 12th grades with their graduates coming up in 2013. The average enrollment since opening is 400 students per year.

The school offers a strong curriculum with an advanced academic program. The school uses the same curriculum and academic programs as other BASIS schools found in Tucson and Scottsdale. The school has a very strong math, social science, and science program that is equal to the programs found in Asia and Europe.

Along with the college preparatory and advanced curriculum the school also offers extra curricular programs including board game, running clubs, chess, and mock trial to name a few.

Since the school recently opened, there are not many reviews. Parents are happy with the performance of their students and have faith in the teachers and staff. The environment is nurturing and safe for all students.

Students at BASIS took part in the AIMS exam, which is a series of tests to measure if students are mastering the standards set forth by the state. The percentages listed below are those that passed or exceeded the standards for the school.

In writing, 90% of 5th graders passed, in reading 99%, and in math 96%. Sixth graders saw percentages of 94% in writing, 100% in reading, and 97% in math. Seventh graders did just as well with 95% in writing, 100% in reading, and 99% in math. In science, 8th graders that passed or exceeded the exam was 99%, in reading 99%, and in math 100%. Tenth graders did excellent with percentages at 100% in science, 99% in writing, 100% in reading, and 99% in math.
