Ballington Academy for the Arts and Sciences is a public charter school opening in 2009 for students in kindergarten through 3rd grades. The school offers a very unique curriculum that blends core subjects with art and science to create a fun and nurturing learning environment. The challenging curriculum helps to students become life long learners that are self-motivated. The school offers a multi cultural learning environment where each student is provided with the attention they need to grow and learn.
The school does not mention any type of extra curricular activities at this time. On the other hand, parents did mention that the school offers fun activities such as learning to play the guitar.
Parents are very impressed with the way their children are learning even with kindergarteners getting up in front of their class to present their school work. Parents stated that students are becoming independent and motivated as well as self confidence. Students enjoy attending school and love their teachers. The only complaint is that the school is a bit unorganized as reported by a few parents. No parent had any problems with the staff, teachers, or curriculum.
The Academic Performance Index showed that the school had academic growth from the previous year. The percentage of students passing the California Standards Tests was up and down with some being below average and other being quite a bit above average but there was marked improvement over the previous year.
