Aveson School of Leaders Review

Aveson School of Leaders opened in Altadena in 2007 to provide students with the option of attending a public charter school offering a personal and caring learning environment for students in kindergarten through 5th grade. The school ensures students are prepared for the remainder of their education. The other charter school that uses the same principles and learning environments is the Aveson Global Leadership Academy for students in sixth through twelfth.

The school offers multi age classrooms in a safe and caring learning environment. Teachers work with students to create a personalized lesson plan that fits the needs of each student on a personal level. The curriculum is blended with real life skills.

Along with core subjects, Aveson Global Leadership Academy offers extra curricular activities students can join including drawing, dance, computer arts, chorus, drama, band, dance, ceramics, and film production. Sports offered at the include school yoga, basketball, volleyball, football, physical education classes, soccer, swimming, and cheerleading. Student clubs available are yearbook, community service, newspaper, multimedia, science & technology, and student government. Vocational programs are also available such as food service and technology.

Parents have mixed thoughts regarding the school with some believing the school should focus more on testing while others are very pleased with the curriculum. All stated that teachers are very devoted and caring. A few mentioned that the school is blending the Montessori method along with the other teaching methods which is a unique blend that is helping students succeed. All reported their students are enjoying school and love attending.

The Academic Performance Index showed the school has improved academically from the previous year. Percentage of students passing the California Standards Tests were above average except for math which was below average for 4th and 5th graders, however the percentage of students that passed math was higher than the previous year.

The school is providing a good education in a nurturing environment and improvements are being seen in the results of the state exams. Of course, to ensure your child will do well in the learning environment, you should visit the school.
