Aspire Firestone Academy Charter Review

Aspire Firestone Academy Charter opened in 2010 in South Gate to provide students at risk with an alternative to traditional school where they can receive an individualized lesson plan that will help them succeed. The school serves students in kindergarten through 5th grades. Aspire Firestone Academy Charter is part of the Aspire Public Schools. The Aspire network of schools is among the top rated schools in the US.

Every student attending the Aspire network of schools are provided with the skills they need to be able to meet all the requirements to enter a college or university upon high school graduation. One of the programs that is getting attention is the College for Certain education, which is working with 12,000 students, which are mainly Black and Latino and often low income.

The Aspire Firestone Academy Charter uses a variety of teaching strategies that includes project based instruction, explicit instruction, distributed practice, massed practice, inquire, apprenticeship, and problem solving. The school does not offer extra curricular activities.

Parents are very happy that the school opened in their community and is helping their children succeed. Students are learning better than before and actually retaining the information. The reason as most parents explained is the small class size, challenging curriculum, and caring teachers and staff. The only complaint is that students would like see more student clubs and sports available.

Percentages of students at Aspire Firestone Academy Charter that passed the California Standards Tests were above state averages except for math for 5th graders, which was just a bit below average. The Academic Performance Index showed that the school had growth academically over the previous year.

The school is doing a great job providing students with the skills needed to enter high school along with the social skills to help them excel. It would still be best to take a tour to make sure, if the learning environment is a good fit for your family before enrolling your child.
