Aspire Alexander Twilight College Preparatory Academy opened in Sacramento in 2009 to provide as a charter school to provide an alterative to traditional schools. The school offers tuition free charter school that offers individualized and personal learning for all students in grades kindergarten through fifth.
Aspire Alexander Twilight College Preparatory Academy works with students that live in underserved communities with the tools needed to graduate high school and go on to college. Every student will have the requirements to enter a four-year college or university and obtain a college education. The school is one of the top performing in the state and works with students that may not have an opportunity to attend college by attending a traditional school. The school operates within the Aspire network of schools that are located across the nation. Within the College for Certain education, there are 12,000 students in their 34 schools, which are 85% Black and Latino with 80% of student coming from low-income families. The majority of students will be the first in their families that will attend college.
The school provides high quality teachers that care about the aspirations of each student and work with each child on a personal level to ensure their success.
The school stresses core subjects that are taught using a variety of teaching methods. All students learn at different levels and in different ways, thus the reason that Aspire Alexander Twilight College Preparatory Academy works with students on an individual basis with such strategies as massed practice, distributed practice, explicit instruction, problem solving, inquire, apprenticeship, and project based instruction.
Parents express just how much the school has helped their children succeed. Students are learning more than just academics and becoming responsible and caring individuals. The school is strict when it comes to students turning in homework on time, how they treat one another and staff, and bullying is not tolerated. Teachers are caring and nurturing while ensuring students are learning in a way that they understand and can reach their goals. The Academic Performance Index showed that Aspire Alexander Twilight College Preparatory Academy had growth in academic scoring over the previous year. Mixed scores were seen with the California Standards Tests with some being below average and others above average.
