American Indian Public Charter School Review

American Indian Public Charter School opened in 1996 for students in middle school grades 6th through 8th. The school offers small class sizes with only just a tad over 250 students enrolled per year.

The school centers on core subjects with self-contained classrooms so students have more time to work on the schoolwork.

The American Indian Public Charter School system mainly serves inner-city students in sixth through eighth grade. The school centers on providing American Indian students with the educational tools needed to reach their goals in a caring and nurturing learning environment. Attendance is important for the success of students and is encouraged to help students succeed. The curriculum is created with enhancement in mind to ensure students will not only learn but will also enjoy learning. With this goal in mind, students become productive members of their community as well as life long learners.

Along with core subjects, American Indian Public Charter School offers band and physical education classes.

Parents are thrilled with the progress their children are making attending the school. Teachers and staff are very devoted and caring. Most parents love the small class size and the one on one personal attention their children receive from teachers and even the principal. The only complaint was that a few parents and students expressed was the need for more extra-curricular activities such as sports and student clubs.

Students at American Indian Public Charter School participated in the California Standards exams. The results showed that most grade levels were above average with quite a few in the 90% range and 8th graders scored 100% in English Language Arts.

With all the good comments from parents and students and the great results from state testing, the school is certainly doing a good job providing students with the tools they need to reach their goals and become productive members of society. Of course, you should take a tour of the school, to ensure it is the right move for your child.
