Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE) Charter Review

Alternative Cooperative Education (ACE) Charter opened in 2010 for students in kindergarten through 6th grades in Vacaville. The school is located on the campus of Hemlock Elementary and offers an alternative to traditional school settings and learning environment. The curriculum uses a multitude of learning styles including multiage classrooms, thematic curriculum, cooperative learning, differentiated instruction, authentic assessment, extended learning experiences, and family participation.

Thematic curriculum is one that uses themes, which often helps students learn in pleasant environment. The curriculum follows a historical time line. The curriculum is on a four-year cycle, which means that every four years students will start the historical time but will be more in-depth to accommodate the age.

Parents expressed that the teachers are devoted to the success of their students as well as being experienced and devoted. The multi age classrooms are actually very nice as it feels more like a family than a school, which many explained, has helped their children be more comfortable at school. The principal as well as staff are just as involved in the school as parents, which helps create a safe and nurturing learning environment.

When it comes to testing, Alternative Cooperative Education Charter showed growth with the Academic Performance Index results. For the California Standards Tests students did very well, most results were average or above average in most grade levels. The fifth grade class was just a bit below average but not enough to worry about as the other grades did extremely well.

The school is doing a very good job providing students with the educational tools they need to succeed. It would still be best to learn more about the community prior to enrolling to ensure the school is a good fit for your family.
