The Ahwatukee Foothills Prep Early College High School opened in 2010 for students in 9th. The charter school is centered n Advanced Placement that allows students to earn college credits. The school is designed to change the normal classroom with the teacher at the center of the learning experience to a classroom that involves challenging students with a curriculum that includes discovery, problem solving, and exploratory learning.

The school uses the STEM Curriculum, which includes science, mathematics, engineering, and technology into a new and innovative way to help students solve problems and then apply what they learn. The same concept is also being used in the Ahwatukee Foothills Prep elementary school ensuring that all classes are headed in the right direction for college, known as college preparatory classes. The early college high school is designed for students in AP classes known as advanced placement, which is normally reserved for college level classes like CAD programs that are now being taught in high school using the same STEM curriculum.

The principal of the school, John Breen, explained that at this time the school is working with colleges locally to aid students in using their AP credits to fulfill core college credits. This is the first charter high school in the United States for the company Mosaica that does offer other educational opportunities which is the Ahwatukee Foothills Prep elementary school. The future goal is to align all the schools so when students arrive to the high school they will be prepared to take classes such as calculus as well as AP biology. All AP classes will not be considered alternatives but will be the core curriculum.

Extracurricular activities are also planned for Ahwautukee Foothills Prep Early College High School but the programs will be fee based. The activities include drama, choir, volleyball, track, and basketball.

Since the school recently opened, no records of tests scores are available.
