Academia Avance Charter School opened in 2005 for students in 6th through 12th grades. The school offers a challenging curriculum that provides students with real world skills via multi cultural experiences, projects and internships. On average, the school has 420 students enrolled per year.

The staff and administration ensure the school offers small class sizes by not allowing more than a total enrollment of 420 students. The curriculum offers courses that integrate history, math, writing, and science projects to encourage understanding of the core subjects.

Students can expect a multi cultural nurturing learning environment with real time assessment such as day-to-day progression, which can be accessed by parents at any time. Along with core subjects, the school offers other extra curricular activities, which include physical education classes, basketball, soccer, young people’s project, solar cup, rock on education, and cultural exchange program.

Parents are very happy with the way their children are learning and becoming more involved in their community. Parents expressed that their children are more interested in school and talk about their studies now that they are attending Academia Avance Charter School than when they went to traditional schools.

In the state of California, the California Standards Tests are used to measure students in English language arts for students in 2nd through 11th grades; science for grades 5th, 8th, and 10th; math in grades 2nd through 7th; and history/social science in grades 8th and 11th. Students in middle school also take tests in science and math.

Sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth graders were below state averages in all core subjects. Eleventh graders were above average in Algebra II, US History, English Language Arts, but were below average in Chemistry by almost 30%.
