This widget browser is dependent upon links at Adobe.com, and it is possible those links have changed. I am afraid that that is out of my control.

If you are interested in an image gallery and this feature is no longer functional, please view my Dreamweaver CC course. In that course I show how to use the Easy Rotator extension which does not need the widget browser. Here is a link to that video:

I have finally located a copy of the widget browser and made it available for download from the following link:

http://cmairscreate.com/WidgetBrowser.zip

This extension requires you to have Adobe Air installed on your system prior to installing the extension. Adobe Air can be downloaded from https://get.adobe.com/air/.

Installing the Widget Browser

  • We are going to take a look at the Widget Browser, an Adobe add-on program that can make adding widgets an easy process for your web pages
  • The Widget Browser is an add on program for Dreamweaver that allows you to easily add cool javascript features to your website pages using an easy interface
  • This product requires Adobe Air to be installed on your system, if you have trouble with the widget browser, try updating Air on your system
  • The first step to using this feature is to download the widget browser from the Adobe website, you may want to see if the widget browser installed itself automatically on your system
  • Go to Start & search for widget on Windows, look for Widget Browser on the Mac side in Applications
  • If you have it installed, open it on your system, if not, here is the link to download it:

Transcription: Installing the Widget Browser

We are now going to take a look at installing the Widget Browser.0000

What is the Widget Browser?--an excellent question: it is an add-on Dreamweaver feature that is a separate download from Dreamweaver, and it allows you to install some interesting jQuery and Javascript features, using an interface.0005

You can think of this as an add-on to the Dreamweaver program to help you add some cool effects to your web pages.0023

What I want to do is take you out and explain how to install the Widget Browser, and what you need in order to do so.0032

I am on my Resources page for Dreamweaver; and the way I got here is by going to the Resources area--and I have quite a few here, but the Dreamweaver Resources specifically--and that is where I am located.0040

Now, there is a little area here for the Widget Browser itself in the upper right; and you can download the Widget Browser by clicking on this link, but there are some additional resources here for you regarding the Widget Browser.0056

What we are going to do is take a look at what is needed in order to download the Widget Browser and get that all set for you, so you can download it and have it installed, so it is available to you.0073

If you click this Download the Widget Browser link, what it does is take you out to the Adobe Labs website.0086

This is located at labs.adobe.com; and within the Labs website, quite often, there are some new features that Adobe is working on that are not necessarily known to everybody.0095

So, this Adobe Labs homepage is an interesting one to reference every so often.0110

There are a lot of different features that are introduced through this Labs website, and quite often, people are allowed to use them, and then Adobe can determine if they want to make it a part of a paid service or not.0117

What it does is allow you to use some of these features before it is actually officially introduced by Adobe.0132

It is kind of a cool way to get some new features; I have seen a lot of new things introduced through this Labs website over the years.0139

Let's look at the Widget Browser: you can see, this came out back in 2011; this is version 2; and this is how you can install it.0148

The idea is: you can click this Install Now button, provided you have the Flash player installed; so, if you have Flash, you can just click on this, and it downloads and installs it for you.0160

If you don't have Flash, what you do is click this link here; it downloads it onto your system, and this link includes a product called Adobe AIR.0174

Adobe AIR is required in order for this Widget Browser to run on your system.0187

The Widget Browser is a little bit different from other programs that Adobe has that you install.0193

The idea is: click the Install Now button here if you have Flash available on your system, and it is a very simple process; it is a bit more of a manual process if you click this link.0201

You will have to pay attention to where that downloads to, install it from there--and you may be prompted to install Adobe AIR at the same time, and the Widget Browser will not work without it.0215

Now, what is this Widget Browser I have been talking about?--I'll go ahead and close that, and what you are looking at is the Widget Browser.0228

It allows you to add some really interesting things to your web pages.0237

What I have done is signed into the Adobe Exchange here, using my Adobe ID; now, if you want to work with the Widget Browser, you do need to create an Adobe ID in order to get into this area.0242

It is a free service--it is just your email and a password; you will have to sign in in order to use the Widget Browser.0258

I just want to state that up front for you.0266

Let me show you some of the things that you can do within this Widget Browser.0269

This one is kind of a cool one; it is known as the 360 Rotation Viewer, and the way you work on these is: you click on the particular item you are interested in seeing.0274

This gives you details about it; notice, this one runs on the jQuery framework...so, those are the details about it.0287

But what if I want to see what it looks like?--what I do is click on Preview; and what that is going to do is preview this particular widget within your own interface.0296

If you decide you like it, then what you do is install it as your own widget; and this is downloading some files in order to work--so, when you do go to Preview, it does need to have access to some of those files.0309

Now, it looks like there is an image missing in this default one; let me try refreshing and see if that fixes it.0324

If not, I'll go down to the mini Cooper here; and let's see if this one works.0331

Now, there may be some issues with different programs within your system when you go to preview some of these widget pieces.0338

So, if this one doesn't work, don't worry about it; just go on to another one.0346

Let me just give this another second and see if this Rotation Viewer is available.0351

It looks like it is missing some images at this point; and let me click on the three iPhones...I have a feeling...oh, this one does work.0356

This is kind of a cool feature--what it does is: it allows you to get this spinning.0365

And as you can see, some of these, you have to be careful with: I am going to go over to the Preview here, and let's see if I can get it to work.0371

It doesn't seem to be working; so it looks like the 360 Rotation Viewer isn't working right now; so make sure you test these out on your system.0381

There are a few of these that are using older versions of code, or the website might not be quite as up-to-date, or you might not be able to access it.0393

So, if it doesn't work, click on this Adobe Exchange; it takes you right back to the complete listing of all of them.0403

Let me go ahead and choose another one; here is one...let's go down to this Cycle plugin.0410

I'll click on this one; you can see, it's downloading; there are the details; let me go over to Preview; and what this is going to do is preview, and there is a little slide show.0418

The idea is: the preview is supposed to show you some of these different features.0431

Now, that is the default preset; but we have other options here.0436

This one fades and zooms; and you can see, that is exactly what it is doing--I am clicking on the image, and it zooms in another one.0441

Here is one with a scroll left and right; now, I click on it; you can see, it's scrolling.0451

There we go; you can preview any of these, but you do have to click the Preview tab in order to do that.0458

That is the Widget Browser itself; once we have previewed something we want, then what you do is: you add this to your widgets, and you can see, there are quite a few in here.0468

When this first came out, there were very few; but this is an interesting concept--the Widget Browser--and it allows you to add some really cool effects very easily from directly within the Widget Browser, and you can add them and work with them on your own web pages.0481

That is an overview of the Adobe Widget Browser and showing you a few of the different widgets that are available.0499

Just make sure you test some of these and go into that preview area before you decide that is the widget you want to use.0507

That is the Adobe Widget Browser and how you can install that feature within your system so that it's available within Dreamweaver.0516
