Classroom teachers can and must re-invent themselves - build their own community of students online (eg. with a Facebook fan page), do live streaming teaching/tutoriing sessions, youtube videos and sell information products online such as study guides, how-to's and so on.

The possibilities are huge and global if you change your mindset. You can fight against the trends (like the music and newspaper industry is trying to do) or you can get ahead of the curve with online learning which is exploding. If you love teaching it shouldn't matter what medium you use to reach your students.

The situation is grim not only in USA but around the world too.Teaching job requires some major transformation if it wants to improve the situation .Other fields are more attractive than teaching job as they have better earning scope and other opportunities .But if people get the same if not same at least similar then people will join teaching field too.Pink slip given just due to recession doesn't make sense because its easy to loose a good teacher but difficult to hire one and at the time when there is already a drop in this field.Good education can never be compromised .
