Teachers Ask for Textbook Publisher Change


A forum organized by the Association of American Publishers (AAP) found that educators want the industry to meet the needs of today’s student. Teachers found that students are less interested in what they are learning in schools because there is a disconnect to the real world.

Advocates of change ask for interactive materials and simulations, which cannot be accomplished with books as the only resource. Deborah Baker, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction at a district in New York, believes that, “Students need something to mark in, take notes in, and add to. It needs to be on-the-go for busy schedules, and it can’t be on the computer all the time…”
