But by the mid-70s the college started taking shape and grew over the years, to reach where it is today, and has been granting degrees ever since then.  The university has its main campus in Catonsville, but also has the option of distance education.

The university offers several Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral degrees along with professional certifications. The Graduate School offers 38 Master’s degrees, 24 Doctoral degrees, and 21 graduate certifications. The college is known for its courses in Engineering and Science.  Programs are offered in Engineering, Psychology, Life Sciences, Emergency Health Services, Imaging and Digital Arts, Aging Services, Psychology, Public Policy and several other areas. UMBC is considered to be an honors university where students can pursue academic programs that challenge them. The student body consists of 10,210 undergraduates and 2,678 graduates undergoing full-time and part-time courses at the university.

The university’s distance learning program is designed efficiently students to work independently without the need of excessive supervision.  However, the faculty and other support staff are always on hand to help out with anything students need.  There is also the possibility to interact with other students. Only Master’s level programs are offered to online students, but there are several programs that students can take based on their interest.

UF has a distance education system in place, offering students both undergraduate and graduate degrees. These degree programs require a formal admission to the university. Students have to meet the general admission requirements, including all requirements needed for the degree programs they choose.  Their Certificate programs don’t need as many courses as the degree programs and may not even require a formal admission to UF. However, permission has to be obtained from the department or the faculty coordinator. Their other courses include college credit and non-credit personal and professional development courses.  All these courses are offered online through highly advanced web-based technologies, such as on the Web, through a CD or DVD, as well as printed materials sent through mail.  Lab work can be done online and the high level of interaction with the faculty helps students by gaining the advantage of gaining on-campus education online.  Interesting degrees like Forensic DNA, Engineering and Business Administration can be pursued through University of Florida’s distance education.

University of Colorado Denver aims to scale new heights as a reputed leader providing excellence in learning and research. Established more than thirty years ago, in 1972 in Trenton, New Jersey, Thomas Edison College is named after the famous Inventor and New Jersey resident, Thomas Edison. The college offers several Associate’s Bachelor’s, and Master’s degree programs to students from the United States and from more than 70 countries around the world. Rigorous academic methods are implemented to ensure students learn in the best possible way they can. Students can earn their degrees in several areas, from Sociology to Accounting to Nursing to Criminal Justice. They have 100 areas of study to choose from. Noncredit professional certificates are also available.  The college offers three different approaches for students to do their degrees.  The conventional approach is where they fulfill their degree requirements at the college itself. Credentialed approach requires them to complete their degree at the college, but they are in degree programs that require professional certifications and licenses that are earned previously. The third is the Hybrid approach, where students take courses from other institutions as well as Thomas Edison State college. The college has been recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the top 20 colleges and universities in the nation for their use of technology in creating learning opportunities for adults.

Their distance education methods are well-known for their offerings.  These independent study courses are designed in a manner that students can enroll any time of the year. Academic advisors are available by email, fax, phone, the US Postal service, as well as in person. Students get to choose their pace, whether they want to just take up one course at a time or as many as they wish to.  The learning options include independent study and online courses.  In Guided Study courses, the course materials will be sent through mail and the course has to be completed completely independently.  Online courses allow interaction with the faculty and other students and course are accessible at any time, as long as the deadlines are met.  myEdison is where students find all the course material and participate in online class discussions or work in small groups.
