Grantham University Review

Grantham University is one of the oldest, private, degree granting distance education universities in the United States. The school understands that education is vital in today’s competitive workplace and many adults find it challenging to go to a school because of their busy schedules. Towards catering to this segment of people, the school works hard to offer a flexible learning environment to those that wish to pursue their education, making it possible for them to earn high quality accredited undergraduate and graduate degree programs. The curriculum is designed with the students’ goals in mind, so that they can fit education into their lives instead of having to mould their lives around education.

Grantham University was founded in 1951 in Los Angeles, California. The first name of the school was the Grantham Radio License School. Soon after, it was renamed as the Grantham School of Electronics. In the years to follow, the school opened other campuses in Seattle, Washington; Hollywood, Florida; and Kansas City, Missouri. In 1961, it received accreditation by the Accrediting Commission of the predecessor of the Distance Education and Training Council, after which the school could deliver accredited programs to adult students, both on campus and through distance education. Over the years, the school consolidated all the activities to a single location in New Orleans, Louisiana. Grantham offers several undergraduate and graduate online degrees, most of which are designed to provide career training to working adults.

The school’s academic programs are represented by three different schools; The College of Arts & Sciences, The Mark Skousen School of Business, and The College of Engineering. Although, the school has many degrees, it is well-known for its technology and engineering fields, such as information technology and computer science. There is a possibility for working students to gain additional credit for their degrees, due to their work experience. Students can check with the university to see if they are eligible to gain extra credits due to their experience.

Online courses at Grantham offer students flexibility they wouldn’t have when taking on-campus classes. Students can begin their courses at any time and can complete them at any time during an 8-week time period. Students with a high level of motivation can even complete their course much more quickly, finishing their degree programs in as little at 18 months. Students can work towards an Associate’s, Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at their own pace in majors like Business Administration, Computer Science, and Criminal Justice.

All the course content is delivered through “Educator,” which is the Grantham student learning environment. Students can log in and access their course material on the university website. They are also encouraged to interact with their instructors and other classmates regularly to ensure a better learning experience.

Grantham University ensures students reach their true potential by providing them with all the tools necessary for the growth of a person, academically as well as personally. Students pass out of the school only to be highly successful in their chosen careers.

First, I had a great experience with Grantham University (GCE). They’re great for the active duty military (like me!) and they accepted 90 credit hours from my previous schools which includes my RA credits, military certifications, and experience.

Secondly, I chose GCE because of its flexibility while I’m performing my military duties. I work crazy hours and have a family to support so traditional college was not for me. In the past, I’ve attended college on campus and never got the top quality education I received while at GCE. I felt I wasn’t learning as much as I could from the textbooks. The instructors on campus I attended hardly used the $110 books they made me purchase. It ticked me off driving 30 minutes to school, sitting in class for 45 minutes listening to someone instruct from PowerPoint slides, assign homework, and then drive 30 minutes back home. Let’s not get me started with all the erroneous fees I had to pay for e.g. parking, athletics (I never used the gym), security, etc.–what a waste of my time and hard earned money.

Thirdly, my supervisor (An E-9) told me to try GCE. I did but was hesitant at first since I really didn’t know anything about it so I took a few classes. Eventually, I graduated with a BSEET degree. A couple years later I returned to finish my MSIMT degree with Grantham University
In fact, the books, software, etc. were “free” and Grantham had paid my remaining costs since I’m military.

Lastly, the technology used in the virtual labs for engineering were lifelike, challenging, and the latest software and technology. I was using virtual oscilloscopes and multimeters as the same models we have at my workplace. I studied programming languages such as C/C and I got to write my own code. Finally, attending Grantham was the best choice for me, my family and the U.S. military. I give them a high rating and I promise that you will not be disappointed and will learn a lot.
