Visions in Education Charter School Review

Visions in Education Charter School opened in 1999 to serve home school students in kindergarten through 12th grades. The school provides a wide array of variety to enable parents to provide an excellent education in the home environment. Along with providing parents with the best resources available, the school also offers online high school and independent study programs.

The school does not offer any extra curricular activities, student clubs, or sports.

Parents love the school and the fact that they can receive advice and help from teachers when needed. The major complaint of parents is that the school stresses families abide by the California state standards, which some parent’s state this cause issues with their study plan. Overall, most students were very pleased with the school and those that have graduated are thrilled with the supportive teachers and staff.

The Academic Performance Index increased 10 points to 714. The statewide goal is 800. Most parents were happy with the increase.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 70% of 4th graders passed the English exam with the state average at 67%, 40% of 6th graders passed the math exam with the state at 55%, and 49% of 8th graders passed the history exam with the state at 52%.

the California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. The percentage of students passing the English exam was 78% with the state average at 83% and in math 75% passed with the state at 84%.

The school is providing families with the resources and advice needed for students to succeed. If you were considering home schooling your child, it would be in your best interest to learn more about the programs available.
