Tierra Pacifica Charter School Review

Tierra Pacifica Charter School opened in 1998 to give families an option for their students in kindergarten through 8th grades over traditional schools. The school curriculum is standards based but focuses on the whole child.

Along with core subjects, students have the opportunity to choose electives with a few examples being French, soccer, drumming, and needlepoint.

Quite a few parents love the fact that the school works with the whole child and is instilling quality morals with a focus on social justice and environmental stewardship. The majority of parents stated that the teachers and principal are devoted to their students and want each to succeed. A small amount of parents is not happy with the learning environment. Students really enjoy attending school and like the electives that give them the opportunity to try different things.

The Academic Performance Index increased 27 points to 887. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased that the score is going up higher each year.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 63% of 2nd graders passed the math exam with the state average at 64%, 83% of 4th graders passed the English exam with the state at 67%, and 60% of 6th graders passed the math exam with the state at 55%.

The school is providing a quality education in a safe and nurturing environment, however, it would be in your best interest to talk with parents and teachers to ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will excel.
