Tierra Linda Middle School Review

Tierra Linda Middle School opened in 2000 to serve students in 5th through 8th grades. The school focuses on a rigorous and supportive educational program that helps student grow holistically.

At this time, the only extra curricular activities and clubs are student council, band, chorus, and orchestra. The school does not offer any sports. This is a huge disappointment for students that would like to participate in a sport or have other options such as media or computer programming.

Some parents are thrilled with the school and had only positive remarks. On the other hand, a few parents expressed that the school does not reach all students. The only accelerated classes available are in math. Some parents are happy with the environment at all and stated that it was disorganized and discipline is not as strict as it should be. Students said they really like their teachers and they are very helpful. Some students expressed they would like to see more activities instead of just core subjects.

The Academic Performance Index stayed the same as the previous year at 932. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased that the score is above the goal and the statewide ranking of 10 out of 10.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above state averages across all grade levels and all subjects.

The school is providing an excellent education to all students. With a few of the comments of parents, it would be a good idea to take a tour of the school to ensure your child will be comfortable. However, with the exam scores the school is exceptional.
