Stellar Charter School of Technology and Home Study Review

Stellar Charter School of Technology and Home Study opened in 1999 as an alternative to traditional schools. The school curriculum is close to the state standards while integrating the arts into their history/social science curriculum. The school serves students in kindergarten through 8th grades.

At this time, the school does not offer any sports, student clubs, or other activities. This is very disappointing to parents and students alike, with many talking with administration to begin offering other activities.

The majority of parents are very pleased with the curriculum and the caring teachers. On the other hand, some parents stated that some topics being presented at the school might not coincide with your own teachings at home. Students are very happy with the curriculum and teachers but would like to see more activities.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 12 points to 838. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very excited with the raise in points and are thrilled that the score is above state goals.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly below average or was not available. Of those that were above average include 63% of 6th graders passed the English exam with the state at 59%, 94% of 8th graders passed the English exam with the state average at 59%, 60% of 8th graders passed the History exam with the state at 52%, and 67% 8th graders passed the Science exam with the state at 66%.

Overall, the school is doing a fair job of providing students with a quality education. If you do have any concerns, it would be in your best interest to take a tour of the school and talk with other parents to ensure the learning environment is the perfect fit for your family.
