Sky Islands Charter School is a very unique school that utilizes not only core subjects such as math, social studies, science, language arts, and electives, but blends the programs with community based and environmental projects. This unique style of learning is one that keeps students interested while instilling an eagerness to become life long learners. The school opened in 2008 for students in 9th through 12th grades and has an average enrollment of 35 students per year.

The school is proud of the curriculum offered which is above state standards in core subjects with interesting electives, which include building with earth, drafting & design, sociology, integrated science/CEDO trip, beginning Spanish, and basin & range adventures. The curriculum offers direct instruction with qualified teachers, independent study, project based, environment studies, and outdoor/farm based.

Along with the above, the school understands the importance of extra curricular activities and offers such programs as instrumental music lessons, creative writing, poetry, drama, architecture, design, and hiking. At this time, the school does not offer any student clubs.

Parents are very pleased with Sky Islands Charter School. A few parents expressed that their children were getting into trouble, failing classes, or uninterested in attending school until they pulled them and transferred them to this school. Teachers and staff are very caring and will not give up on a student even when a student does not want to learn or attend school. These students are still shown the attention they need to succeed. Parents expressed that the school is the best in area and that their children are doing so much better here than a traditional school. The small class size and caring environment is just what their kids needed to succeed.

The percentage of students passing the AIMS series of exams was average or above average to state percentages. The school is a marvelous educational facility that offers students the ability to reach their goals and to realize their own potential.
