Six Rivers Charter High School Review

Six Rivers Charter High School opened in 2005 to provide students in 9th through 12th grades with options when it comes to their education. On average, the school has an enrollment of just under 100 students per year. The school offers thematic project based learning where students are provided with a personal curriculum that fits their needs.

At this time, the school does not offer any extracurricular activities, sports, or student clubs. Most students are not pleased with this and would like the opportunity to participate in sports like baseball and clubs such as student government.

Parents expressed that the teachers and administration work with each students and have a relaxed atmosphere so even at risk students feel comfortable and can achieve success. Some parents are not as happy with the relaxed atmosphere and believe the school needs to be a bit stricter. However, students are very happy attending the school and stated that all students are treated equal, which makes it the perfect school.

The Academic Performance Index showed a decline of 58 points to 751. The statewide goal is 800. Parents were not happy with the drop in points however, the API statewide rank was 8 out of 10, so they are not as concerned about the drop overall.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mixed. Examples include 72% of 9th graders passed the English exam with the state average at 57%, 67% of 10th graders passed the Biology exam with the state at 43%, and 22% of 11th graders passed the Chemistry exam with the state average at 34%.

the California High School Exit Exam tests 10th graders mastering skills in English language arts and mathematics. In English, 78% of students passed the exam with the state at 83% and in math, 95% passed the exam with the state at 84%. Parents and students alike are very proud of the percentages of students passing the exit exams.

Overall, the school is doing an excellent job of providing students with a quality education. To ensure the learning environment is one in which your children will excel, it would be best to take a tour before enrollment.
