Sequoia Charter Elementary School Review

Sequoia Charter Elementary School offers a unique learning environment where families and the community work alongside the school to ensure the success of each student. The school opened in 1997 for students in kindergarten through 6th grades and has an average of 419 students enrolled per year. The school provides a quality education with core subjects as well as a gifted program and activities for students to enjoy. The school offers more than that with other activities and an after school program.

Along with core subjects, the after school sports team’s students can join include baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, football, and cross-country. Clubs include science, student council, college crew, yearbook, travel, and music.

There are mixed reviews regarding the school A few parents state that the school is great and their children enjoy school and are learning in a safe environment. Then on the other side of the coin, parents state that the classes are more than full with only one teacher. Speaking with the teacher regarding a child needing extra help was only answered with there are too many children in the class to focus on the needs of one child. Some parents explained the principal gives a good talk but that the words are empty promises. The teachers are not sending home any schoolwork, there is no nursing staff, and drop off and pick up seems very confusing.

When comparing the percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of exams third graders were average or above average in core subjects. Fourth and fifth graders were below average in all core subjects. Sixth graders were tested in reading, writing, and math. Reading met state averages, writing was below average, but math was above average.

To learn more about the school and to ensure it is a good fit for your child, you should take a tour of the school, talk with teachers, and other parents.
