Rocklin Academy – Meyers Street Campus Review

Rocklin Academy opened their Meyers Street Campus in 2007 to serve students in kindergarten through sixth grades. The school on average has 186 students enrolled. The curriculum focuses on core knowledge. The student body is diverse which helps students learn to live in our diverse society with 59% White, 26% Asian, 11% Hispanic, 1% African American, 1% Filipino, 1% American Indian, and 2% unspecified.

Even though the school does not offer extra curricular activities or sports, parents are working with administration with plans of adding a few activities. Students are not pleased with the lack of activities offered and would like to see more sports and other programs implemented.

Several parents stated that the school offers excellent teachers, friendly staff, and strong leadership. The major response is that this school ensures that students are treated individually with the ability to move up a grade if a student is ready while ensuring each child receives the personal attention needed to succeed. A few parents were not as pleased with the teachers, staff or school stating that too much emphasis is placed on the API score and that students are given the attention they need. Students said the school is okay and the teachers are usually nice, but they would like to be able to join sport teams or clubs.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 1 point from the previous year to a score of 936. The statewide goal is 800. The majority of parents could not be more pleased with the score. On the other hand, there is a few that state the API score has nothing to do with what the students are really learning.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was above average across the board in all grade levels and all subjects. Parents believe this shows that the teachers are doing a wonderful job of working with students.

With scores and percentages as seen above, you can rest assured the school is providing students with an excellent education. If you do have concerns especially to do with activities, it would be a good idea to talk with teachers and other parents to ensure the school is the best fit for your family.
