Rocketship Si Se Puede Academy Review

Rocketship Si Se Puede Academy opened in 2009 for students in kindergarten through 5th grades. The school offers a college prep program to eliminate the achievement gap in low-income neighborhoods with the major focus on healthy choices for body and mind.

The school does not offer extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs and only focuses on academics. This is a major complaint of many of the parents and the majority of students.

Parents that provided their opinion had different ideas regarding the school. Many stated they are really pleased with the safe and nurturing environment as well as the devoted teachers. Others explained the only focus of the school is on math and literacy. Along with this, a few parents stated there is excessively too much homework and that their children become bored with not only the amount of homework but their class time as well. Some parents are concerned about the lack of social events and activities. Students said they like their teachers but would like to participate in sports or clubs.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 2 points from the previous year to a score of 861. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very happy that the school scored above the statewide goal.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was mainly above average with one exception including 36% of 3rd graders passing the English exam with the state at 48%.

The school is providing a safe and nurturing learning environment along with a quality education. If you have any concerns regarding the amount of activities students can join, you should take a tour of the school.
