Redding School of the Arts II Review

Redding School of the Arts II opened in 1999 to provide the community with an alternative to traditional schools with an emphasis on the visual and performing arts. The school serves students in Kindergarten through 8th grades. The school offers a state based curriculum with collaborative learning.

Along with core subjects, the school offers a variety of other extracurricular activities that rely heavily on visual and performing arts. This is for those students that succeed in their academic skills including at home studies. Students love these classes, but explained they truly miss participating in sports and would love to see a few added.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers, as they have integrated a Mandarin immersion program even with the young students. Parents feel that the school is quite special as it focuses on the ensuring even at a young age that students have a variety of options. The homework load is heavy, but that drive shows through the success of the students.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 6 points from the previous year to a score of 847. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the number and happy that the school and the students are increasing with their test scores.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was majorly above the state averages across the 2nd through the 8th grade exams. There were a few exams that fell below the state averages showing where improvements needed to be made.

The school is providing students with and a unique way to learn that both parents and students love. To ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will excel, you should take a tour before enrollment.
