Primary Years Academy Review

Primary Years Academy opened in 2011 to serve students in Kindergarten through 5th grades. The school prepares students for their future with the International Baccalaureate Program. Problem solving and communicating clearly is the focus of this school.

Along with core subjects, the school offers extracurricular activities for its students. That includes art and music courses as well as a second language for every student to pursue. This makes parents and the students happy; however, they would like more choices when it comes to activities such as baseball.

Parents are thrilled with the curriculum and the teachers at Primary Years Academy. They state the school may be small in size, but big in ideas. Students love that their teachers are so involved and very nice. Again more activities are what the students want.

The Academic Performance Index showed an increase of 23 points from the previous year to a score of 812. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are pleased with the number and the increase from last year.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The percentage of students passing the exams was below the state averages across the 2nd through 5th grade exams. This shows parents that with hard work and solid improvement those test scores will be raised.

The school is providing students with a great educational start and a dedicated staff. For more information schedule a tour and visit with the teachers at Primary Years Academy.
