Raul H. Castro Learning Center is a charter school under the management of PPEP TEC in Douglas. The school provides an education with not only core subjects but also school to work electives. The school opened in 2000 and has an average enrollment of 71 students.

The school has highly qualified teachers that work with students to ensure each one can achieve their goals of graduating high school. The curriculum is computer based so students can work at their own pace. In the majority of cases, the accelerated program provides students with the ability to graduate in three years. With only 12th graders attending the school it is the perfect facility for those that are behind in credits or are not doing well in a traditional school setting.

The small class size and the ability to work at their own pace is the main reason parents and students choose Raul H. Castro Learning Center.

Each campus offers different sports, clubs, or activities for those that wish to participate. A few of the programs you may find at this school include yearbook, LULAC, girl scouts youth leadership, basketball, soccer, gardening, service learning, prom, and student government.

The community is very pleased with the school and they way in which they work within in the community to ensure these students are prepared for their future.

The percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests in 10th grade did very well when compared to other PPEC TEC schools. In reading 74% passed the exam with the state average at 80%, no student passed the science exam, in writing 58% passed with the state average at 70%, and in math, 44% passed with the state average at 60%.

If you plan to enroll your child in Raul H. Castro Learning Center, it would be in your best interest to learn more about the science curriculum as no students passed the state required exam.
