PPEP TEC – Colin L. Powell Learning Center Review

PPEP TEC opened their Colin L. Powell Learning Center campus in 2000 for students in 10th through 12th grades. The average enrollment is 65 students. The school is completely computer based with teachers near by for those that may need some guidance. Teachers are very caring and work with students on a personal level to ensure their success. The accelerated program allows students to graduate in only three years. The school has a wonderful community school to work program that gives students a chance to work in the community as volunteers, which is very impressive on their resumes.

The small class size allows personalized teaching and a very safe environment. Students can work at their own pace, choose between day, afternoon, or evening classes as well as have the support they need from staff and teachers to success.

Parents are very excited about the campus that is helping their child achieve a high school education without the peer pressure and bullying often seen in traditional school settings. Students are learning exactly what they need and are feeling confident about themselves and their knowledge, which aids in creating life long learners.

Each PPEP TEC campus offers different extra curricular activities and clubs. A few of the activities you may find at this school include basketball, soccer, girl scouts youth leadership, prom, yearbook, LULAC, service learning, student council, and gardening.

The percentage of students that passed the AIMS series of tests in 10th grade may not be perfect but is not bad even they are below average. In reading, 58% passed the exam with the state average at 80%; in science 11% passed with the state average at 42%, while in writing 33% passed with the state average at 70%, and in math only 38% passed with the state average at 60%.

If your child is not performing well in a traditional school, this school could be your answer. You should take a tour and learn more about the curriculum before enrolling your child.
