Patagonia Montessori School Review

Patagonia Montessori School opened their charter school in 1998 for students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grades with an average of 75 students per year. The school utilizes a curriculum that follows the methodology and philosophy of Dr. Maria Montessori. The school uses hands on methods that help students learn to use way they are learning. Students practice the skills they learn in daily living scenarios as well as self-help. The school does not offer any extra curricular activities, sports, or student clubs.

The Montessori method used in various charter schools across the nation is very different from traditional school and provides a close-knit community that works with students on a one on one basis with parent involvement. Parents are pleased with the challenging curriculum, caring teachers and the advancement their children have made when attending the school. Students enjoy going to school and learning which is a huge plus for many parents that were having issues with their children wanting to attend school before enrolling in Patagonia Montessori School. The school is working toward adding gardens and providing students with agricultural topics within the next few years. Even first graders are learning more about their world including biomes and Greek mythology, which is extremely amazing.

Students at the school participated in the AIMS series of exams and did quite well with the percentage of 3rd graders passing the exams were above state averages. Fourth graders did excellent in reading with 100% passing the exam and above average in other core subjects. Fifth graders did just as well with 100% passing the reading and math exams and above average in writing. One hundred percent of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders passed the reading, writing, and math exams.

There were no negative comments about the school at all and with the percentages of students that passed the exam, the school is more than meeting state standards. It would still be in your best interest to tour the school before enrolling your child, as the Montessori Method is very different from traditional schools.
