Odyssey Charter School Review

Odyssey Charter School opened in 1999 and serves students in kindergarten through eighth grades. The school offers a project based curriculum, which focuses on academic excellence, future focus, and character development. The school is known as the “Classroom without walls” offering an individualized caring learning environment. The school has a diverse student population with 31% unspecified, 28% African American, 24% White, 15% Hispanic, and 1% Asian.

Most parents are very happy with the school and express how safe their children are attending the school ant that bullying is not an issue at all. As explained by one parent, when a conflict arises, teachers and students join together to resolve the issue without choosing sides, which helps to teach children how to resolve problems peacefully. Other parents are impressed with the lunch program that offers vegetarian meals as well as regular meals, allowing students to choose what they prefer to eat instead of giving all students the same menu. The majority of parents stated that the teachers and staff are very dedicated to the school and the students and work with students individually to become life long learners not just test takes. A few parents stated they had a few issues with staff that could be rude. Students said their teachers are very nice and they like the school.

The Academic Performance Index increased 20 points from the previous year to 845. The statewide goal is 800. Parents are very happy with the score.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades. The percentage of students passing the exams was above state averages in all grade levels and all subjects.

Odyssey Charter School is providing an amazing education with parent involvement. To ensure the learning environment is one in which your child will excel, you should take a tour of the school.
