Oakland Charter High School opened in 2007 to serve students in grades ninth through twelfth. The focus is to prepare students for life after highs school by nurturing work ethic along with a strong academic program. The school knows that the unemployment rate is high and so is the high school dropout rate, which is why a focus on working and higher education is so important.

Parents cannot get enough of the college prep at this school. They know how important that is and are glad that the staff focuses on it. There are summer programs, test preparations, internship opportunities, college visits, talks of college athletics and so much more. Along with this students focus on their core subjects and burn off steam with the offered physical education class.

First things first parents could not be any happier with the numbers that Oakland Charter High School is putting up. The parents love the controlled environment making it a great place to learn. Some parents are concerned that the education is great, but socially the school is not up to par. The students say that they are challenged by the curriculum and are learning in a better way than previous schools. Some students stated they would like to see more activities such as sports offered.

The Academic Performance Index showed a score of 956, which was 19 points higher than last year’s score. This score has blown parents away as the statewide goal is 800. Even their internet ranking is a 10/10 in terms of test taking.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

For the students at Oakland Charter High School their test results showed that they are exceeding each exam across the grade levels when compared to the state averages. The majority of the test results were in the 90th percentile.

For the 10th grade California Exit exam the students again showed impressive numbers with scores of 97% in English and 100% in Math.
