New Heights Charter School Review

New Heights Charter School opened in 2006 for students in kindergarten through fifth grades. The students from the multi-ethnic communities are the target focus at this school. Students learn academic knowledge and skills in a personalized learning environment centered on the individual student. The goal is to achieve health, creativity, and understanding of the big ideas that help to shape our world.

The parents of New Heights love how involved that can be with their children’s school work. The school focuses on the core subjects, but also offers various activities for students to participate in that wish to join. The school even has workshops for the parents that include health, nutrition, and English Language courses. Most parents expressed the programs offered for parents are truly needed in the community and they are very happy that the school offers more for the families than other schools in the area.

The Academic Performance Index showed a score of 804 which was an increase from last year. Parents are quite impressed with this score as the statewide goal is 800.

The school is often seen as challenging and that is the way that the parents like as it provides students with a bit more than just reading. Parents also stated the school was very nice. The teachers approach learning differently than traditional schools and both children and their parents appreciate the unique learning methods.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results showed scores both high and low against the state averages. In 4th and 6th grades, the scores were quite a bit lower than the state standards. Each day the staff and students at New Heights Charter School are striving for better scores across all age groups.

If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to talk with other parents that have students attending the school before enrolling your child.
