Multicultural Learning Center Review

Multicultural Learning Center opened in 2001 for Kindergarten through 8th grades. The school provides a dual language program so children can develop academic success in Spanish and English. This skill will help them in both their community as well as their educational future.

Along with core subjects students are exposed to a curriculum that engages them with hands on experience. This includes a variety of arts related courses with a focus on the meaning of the works of art. There are also visual, performing and media arts. The school does not offer any sports which is a tremendous let down for most students. Some students stated they would like the opportunity to play volleyball or basketball.

Multicultural Learning Center is well liked by parents. They say that the school has the best teachers, a great program that integrates Spanish and English and is well structured. Teachers are described as being very caring and helpful.

The students love that art is a big part of the school. They get to learn about the effect of famous pieces as well as their own. They also get to be creative without limits. The majority of students really like their teachers.

The Academic Performance Index showed a slight increase in academic growth from 781 to 785. Parents were very happy to see the increase. The statewide goal is a score of 800.

The California Standards Tests is used to learn if students are mastering core subjects. The various tests are given to 2nd through 11th grades in English, grades 2nd through 7th are given tests in math, and science tests are administered to students in grades 5th, 8th, and 10th, while history tests are given to students in 8th and 11th grades.

The test results for students at Multicultural Learning Center showed highs and lows across the grade levels and subjects. For example 33% of 4th graders passed their Math exam with the state average at 71%. 70% of 8th graders passed their English Language Arts exam with the state at 62%. Parents stated that their children are doing better each year and with the dual language program, the school is excellent.

If you have any concerns, it would be a good idea to take a tour prior to enrolling your child.
